Student Scheduling Resources

The Faulkner County College Fair is just around the corner, taking place on Wednesday, October 9th at Conway High School. With over 70 colleges, trade schools, and military representatives in attendance, this will be a great opportunity for students to explore options all in one place. Students must complete the google form that was sent to their school email, the Faulkner County registration link (QR code), and pick up/turn in a permission slip to the GHS Counselor's Office. Transportation is provided. The deadline to register is Tuesday, September 10th! 

Seniors be sure to regularly check the Local Scholarship spreadsheet.  This link is shared in the counselors' Google classroom for GHS seniors students to access.  The document will also be updated as scholarship opportunities become available. Counselors will also share opportunities in each grade level google classrooms.

Students must first add the code, then they can invite a parent to join.

  • You must have a FAFSA completed to be awarded the Academic Challenge Scholarship and you will need to complete the FAFSA every year that you are in college.
  • Both the student and the parent will need a FSA ID obtained from the Federal Student Aid ID Website.
  • College Visit Days: Pick up and return College Day request forms to the main GHS office. 
  • College Transcripts: Seniors make sure you transfer your UCA, UALR, Tech, AStATE, and UACCM transcripts to your new college.  The GHS Counseling Office cannot do this for you.
  • You need to review your transcript online to make sure everything looks correct.  If you have any issues, please bring a copy of your college transcript to Mrs. Hebel.     

Preparing for College

What do colleges look for?

  1. Strength of your curriculum
  2. Your GPA
  3. SAT, ACT and SAT Subject Tests scores
  4. Application essays
  5. Extracurricular activities (especially community service)
  6. Recommendations

Teacher & Counselor Recommendations
Here are some guidelines that should help you secure better recommendations:

  • Start early. Your teachers and counselors are swamped, so give them plenty of time.
  • Give your teachers and counselors all the necessary materials, including your application deadlines and stamped, addressed envelopes or a link to online recommendations.
    Waive your confidentiality rights on scholarships.
  • Pick your recommenders wisely. Don't pick a teacher just because you got an A in his or her class. It's important that the teacher or counselor knows you well.
    Promptly send a thank-you note to each person who gives you a recommendation.
